Experience the Tradition, Flavours and Heritage of Barban
Throughout July and August, Barban becomes a place of tradition, culture and authentic Istrian experiences. Every Wednesday, visitors can enjoy a diverse programme showcasing the history, customs and way of life of this picturesque Istrian town.
Starting at 6:00 PM on the Small Barban Square, visitors can explore a mini market featuring local products, meet local producers and taste the flavours of Istria. History enthusiasts can join the free guided tour “Life under the Loredans”, which reveals fascinating stories from Barban’s rich past.
A special attraction is the horse riders’ training sessions, preserving the tradition of the Ring Race (Trka na prstenac), one of Croatia’s most renowned equestrian heritage events. Younger visitors can take part in workshops and traditional games designed to introduce them to local customs and traditions in a fun and engaging way.
Visitors can also explore the Ring Race Museum and learn more about the history and significance of this unique event. Admission to the museum is €4, while all other programme activities are free of charge. The evening atmosphere will be enriched by live music and the charming setting of Barban’s historic centre.
Before the main summer event – the Ring Race – take the opportunity to discover Barban’s cultural heritage, local products and welcoming community, where traditions are proudly preserved and passed down through generations.
