Cultural and Artistic Society Barban

We are proud and grateful for the work and effort that many members of different generations invest in order to preserve our culture and customs for future generations.

The Cultural and Artistic Society “Barban” began its work on April 17, 1976. After its foundation, the Society had the following sections: a folklore section, a reciter section, and a mixed choir, which ceased to operate shortly after its foundation. It was revived in 1984, and its activities ceased in 1989.

The recital section brought together those interested in and in love with the native language, the Chakavian language. The section was active until 1988, when it stopped working.

The pillar of the work of the Cultural and Artistic Society Barban has always been the folklore section, which from the beginning of its organized activities has set the goal: to preserve, preserve and transfer knowledge and love for the original folk musical heritage of its region to new generations. Three groups operate within the folklore section: a group of dancers, a group of folk singers and a group of players on folk instruments.

The Cultural and Artistic Society Barban successfully presents its work at various folklore events and festivals within and outside the borders of Croatia. Over the years, members of the society have also been guests on numerous radio and TV shows.

However, the activities of The Cultural and Artistic Society Barban are not limited to participation in events and festivals, but also include informal ones that are important to mention, such as organized celebrations and festivities, joint excursions, etc. Friendly relations among members and togetherness are extremely important for the work of the Society, as evidenced by numerous successful performances, folklore festivals, meetings and private gatherings.

The work of The Cultural and Artistic Society Barban has always been and will always be of exceptional importance in preserving the Barban culture, which includes introducing the younger generation to old songs and music, dancing dances characteristic of this region, learning about and valorising the Chakavian dialect of the Barban region, learning about the customs of this region, and many other things.
