Wine Museum

Wine Museum

The wine museum, called “100% made in Grandići by Johan and Matija”, is located in a stone house that has remained intact for more than 300 years in the small village of Grandići in the Municipality of Barban. It is a small room of perhaps 30 square meters that at one moment evokes the former life in an Istrian village, and that of a wealthy family.

It displays old tools and objects that evoke how people used to live and work in the Barban region, that is, how our ancestors produced wine, but also brewed brandy and prepared wine vinegar. Johan and Matija produced about 6 thousand litres of Teran in Grandići about fifty years ago, and the owners only knew Matija. They died without children, and dedicated their lives to wine production. They were one of the largest in the Barban region and had barrels of two to three thousand litres. It is interesting that Johan, for example, sprayed his vineyards for as long as 15 days. Matija even sewed some kind of pads onto the straps on the syringe container to make it easier for him.
